  3. IS THERE LIFE ON MARS? - Maybe.....
  4.  
  5. Recent investigations into meteorites which have landed on Earth and
  6. have known to have originated on Mars show trace minerals containing
  7. water, which can only have come from the planets surface.
  8.  
  9. It has been known for some time that up to some hundreds of millions
  10. of years ago, Mars was a lot warmer, with perhaps running water,seas,
  11. and a lush tropical climate. It is speculated on that perhaps a
  12. cataclysmic event such as a large asteroid collision knocked Mars
  13. slightly out of orbit, further away from the Sun and causing the
  14. climate to plummet.

  16. However, although much of the Martian surface water would then have
  17. evaporated, it is now thought that much also drained underground
  18. and there may be very substantial amounts locked in wells.
  19.  
  20. This would make the future colonisation and terra forming of Mars
  21. a much easier task. It had been thought that water might be locked up in 
  22. Mars in the form of deeply frozen ice, which colonists would have to free
  23. using controlled nuclear explosions - however,it may know just be a 
  24. question of sinking wells.

  26. The only drawback is that the time of the meteorite leaving Mars is
  27. at the moment totally unknown. The water may have existed billions
  28. of years ago - and may now be gone - or, if the meteorite is of
  29. relatively recent origins - the water may still be there. Traces
  30. of amino acids, the building blocks of life have also been found
  31. in the meteorites.
